The Photo Friday challenge for Friday 17th August is old. I’m about an hour late (UK time) but it’s still the 17th August for most of America so I’m posting it!
This is a fossil ammonite on the beach at Charmouth near Lyme Regis on the South Coast of England. Charmouth and Lyme Regis are famous for the fossils found there some of the first dinosaurs ever found were found at Lyme Regis. One of the most famous collectors was Mary Anning born in Lyme Regis in 1799, she was an amateur fossil collector, picking up fossils on the beach to sell to visitors. She found the first complete icthyosaur and plesiosaur.
These huge ammonites are all over the beach and other fossils can be picked up easily
